LEVE MSc scholarships 2010-2011
LEVE announces two MSc scholarships of 10 months’ duration from 30 August
2010 to 30 June 2011. Each scholarship amounts to NOK 30,000.

Grand Challenges Canada: Request for Proposals on Point-of-Care

Diagnostics

Grand Challenges Canada announces an important new research funding
opportunity in global health.  This request for proposal (RFP),
addressing the first in a series of Grand Challenges, is targeted
exclusively at researchers in low- and middle-income countries.

The aim is to create innovative new components for a point-of-care
(POC) diagnostics platform for use in low resource settings. The
advanced platform, among other features, will be easy to use,
extremely low cost, multiplexed, and be capable of defining the stage
of development of the disease.

Grand Challenges Canada will fund proposals to advance the state of
the art in component technologies focused on the following topic
areas: 1) sample collection, concentration, and preparation; 2)
amplification and detection technologies; 3) readout and signal
transduction; 4) enabling technologies for diagnostics; and 5)
implementation research for point-of care diagnostics.

Early announcement

Course in Vaccinology in India September 20 to September 30, 2010 – Opportunity for Norwegian Researchers and Students.

A two-week course in Vaccinology with several Indian and International lecturers will be held in Vellore, India this fall. The course aims to provide a comprehensive overview of Vaccinology and will cover several aspects such as basic immunology, the process of development of a vaccine, the licensure and regulatory requirements, the process of introducing a new vaccine into a country, vaccine trials, and translation of research into policy.

The course is partly funded through a grant from The Research Council of Norway and a limited number of seats have been reserved for participants from Norwegian Institutions. This grant also covers travels to India and course fee.

Attached is the course brochure witch includes the application form for Indian participants . Non-Indians should not use this form and are requested contact Tor A. Strand directly for additional information and if interested in taking the course. Priority will be given to Ph.D students or Post Doctoral researchers who do research related to vaccines or immunology.
