June Jacobsen Steen is assistant professor at Faculty of Health and Sport, University of Agder, Kristiansand.  Steen has background in nursing and public health, has been active in international health research since 1999 and has worked in Botswana for more than six years. She coordinates a student exchange-programme with African countries. She works on her doctoral degree with focus on aids, ethics and human rights in Botswana and is member of a research group on global public health at University of Agder.

Rune Nilsen is Director of Centre for international health (CIH), University of Bergen and Professor in International Health since 1988. Previous Deputy Rector of University of Bergen, Head of the NUFU programme boards, and long experience in international higher learning, research policy and governance. Particular experience in doctoral training polecies and Open Access publication policies. Main academic background in immunology and pathology of tuberculosis and tobacco and cancer.

Akhtar Hussain is professor at Institute of General Practice and Community Medicine.  His professional background is medicine, epidemiology and behavioural science. His current research interests include nutrition transition and lifestyle related diseases with obesity and diabetes but also under-nutrition related diabetes.  Akhtar Hussain coordinates for EU, Research Council of Norway and NOMA financed projects in Asia, Europe and Africa. He has also been involved in HIV and STDs research in Tanzania and Zimbabwe.

Jon Øyvind Odland is a medical doctor, epidemiologist and specialist in gynaecology and obstetrics, with a 15 year history of research projects in the new independent states of Eastern Europe, especially Russia. He has a position as Professor of International Health, Medical Faculty, University of Tromsø. His main scientific interests are infectious diseases, contaminants and pregnancy outcome, development of pregnancy care programs in different cultures, use of epidemiological methods in public health services, and global environmental health problems.

Hans_Hadders

Hans Hadders is associate professor at Faculty of Nursing, Sør-Trøndelag University College. He has a background in nursing and his PhD is in social anthropology. During the eightieths Hadders spent six years at the Visva-Bharati University at Santiniketan (West Bengal) studying North Indian Music. He has done research on the mortuary rituals performed by the Jadopatias in the Santal villages of Bengal and Jharkhand, India. Besides his focus on mortuary rituals and standardisation of death in India and within the Norwegian health care, his field of specialisation is medical anthropology. Hadders is involved in the collaboration between the University College of Sør -Trøndelag and ICDDR,B  in Bangladesh.

Inger B. Scheel has a PhD in public health and is Research Director of SINTEF's Department of Global Health and Welfare. The research unit works with issues related to health care delivery for disadvantaged groups in low and middle income countries.  The research activities focus on the implementation of complex interventions and their evaluation in terms of effectiveness, acceptability, sustainability and equity. Scheel is currently leading an international research project on the use of lay/community health workers in vaccination programs.

Kristin Sandberg is a post doc researcher and coordinator of the project Explaining Differential Immunization Coverage, which is based at the Center for the Environment and Development (SUM) at the University of Oslo (UiO). She is also an associate researcher at the Fridtjof Nansen Institute and heads a working group on Health & Foreign Policy at the UiO as part of the interfacultary programme LEVE (leve.uio.no).  Kristin has a PhD from the Section for International Health at the University of Oslo on the politics of global health governance. She has a social science background in international relations and economics. Geographic focus is on the Geneva/Washington/New York nexus, as well as Southern Africa, India and emerging economies. Research interests include the organization of collective action on global health challenges, as well as the interfaces between global governance and national implementation.

Norwegian Knowlegde Centre for Health Services

Atle Fretheim heads the Preventive and International Health Care Unit at the Norwegian Knowledge Centre for the Health and holds a position as associate professor at the Institute of Health and Society, University of Oslo. He is a medical doctor by training and has practiced in Norway and abroad. His research has mainly focused on the implementation of interventions in the health services and the use of research findings in decision making. His main interests are systematic reviews of the effects of interventions, and the conduct of rigorous impact evaluations of health care programmes.

Bente E. Moen is professor in Occupational Medicine at the University of Bergen, Department of Public Health and Primary Health Care. She works mainly in the area of occupational epidemiology and related exposure studies. Gerd Holmboe-Ottesen is the head of the Department of Institute of General Practice and Community Medicine, University of Oslo. She is a professor in International/Community Nutrition at the. She has carried out research on nutrition and socio-economic correlates of obesity and risk of metabolic syndrome in children, adolescents and adults in developing countries in Africa and Asia, as well as in immigrants in Oslo. She has particularly focused on the nutritional impact of urbanization and market integration, and has presently been involved in a lifestyle intervention study aiming at preventing type 2 diabetes.

Eide is Chief Scientist at SINTEF Technology and Society, Professor in rehabilitation at Sør-Trøndelag University College, and Honorary Professor at Stellenbosch University, South Africa.  He has background from social science and behavioural science. He has 20 years experience from 15 different low-income countries, in particular Southern Africa. His main research interests are in disability statistics, disability studies, rehabilitation and health service delivery.

Jagrati Jani-Bølstad is a postdoc at Institute for Health and Society (Section for International health) University of Oslo. Jani-Bølstad is a Medical Doctor as a background and PhD in Epidemiology. At the moment she is involved in two research projects, namely ”To explain differential immunisation coverage” in India and Malawi financed by GlobVac (NRC) as and ”Assessing Norwegian Indian Partnership Initiative” financed by Ministry of Foreign Affairs/NORAD. Her areas of interest are infectious/ chronic diseases and health systems related research.

Ottar Mæstad is the Director at Chr. Michelsen Institute (CMI), Bergen, and head of CMI’s programme on Global Health and Development. Mæstad is an economist with research experience within health systems research, environmental economics and international trade. His current research relates mainly to issues of health worker availability, motivation and performance, as well as priority setting in health. The geographical focus is Eastern and Southern Africa.

Paul Fife, Norwegian Agency for Development and Cooperation, Global Health and Aids Department (Norad)

Paul Richard Fife is Director of the Global Health and Aids Department at Norad - the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation. Fife represents Norway on the Board of the GAVI Alliance. He is also a Board member of the Global Health and Vaccination Research programme in the Norwegian Research Council.
On 1 October 2010, Fife will assume a new position as Policy Director, Global Health and AIDS, in the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Prior to joining Norad in 2004, Fife worked with UNICEF in Eritrea, Cambodia and at New York headquarters. His field of expertise includes health sector management, vaccines and immunization and international public health. He trained as a medical doctor at the University of Oslo and has a master's degree in public policy and management from the University of London (SOAS).
