ISSMF 4205 International Community Health; Accessibility, Equity and Human Rights

The course is particularly relevant for people who are working within the field of health as health care professionals and service providers, policy makers, planners and program officers in government agencies and non-governmental organizations, as well as people who are interested in doing research within the field of public health.

Active participation in all activities, including classroom discussions is required.

Content: Set within a conceptual framework of equity, accessibility and human rights, the course addresses global public health challenges. Based on new scientific (both epidemiology and qualitative) research, experiences from different development projects and the UN/WHO framework, the course aims at providing a broad focus within public health. The course agenda will select topics from these thematic areas: infectious diseases such as AIDS/HIV and TB; reproductive health and sexual health; mental health and disabilities (including life style diseases). The thematic areas will be explored within a broad understanding of  participation and creating an inclusive and democratic society for all.
