At the Summit on MDGs in New York 20 to 22 September world leaders are gathered to discuss important decisions regarding future global efforts. Because it has not been prioritized, the Millennium Development Goal 5, on reducing the number of women who die during pregnancy and birth,  is the goal furthest from achievement. There are still dying several hundred thousand women every year, even though we know how they can survive. There are several opinions on how to best reach our goal. CARE Norway, Norway UNICEF and Amnesty International believe it is important to debate an engage Norway in these issues. We therefore invite all who are concerned with maternal health, to participate in the seminar to share knowledge, discuss and inspire each other.

The main topics of the seminar are:
 1. How to ensure that international assistance has the best possible effect for mothers' health?
 2. How can cultural traditions and practices contribute to poor maternal health? What strategies can make to counteract these?
 3. What kind of role can Norway play in promoting gender equality and women's rights to improve maternal health?
